May 2019

Do you know the best way to keep from having a FunDay cancelled due to Hurricane? The answer is to change the date of the FunDays so it is not during Hurricane Season. Back a few months ago we decided to change the date of the Bay City FunDay to June instead of September. This should keep us from having to cancel due to weather like we have the last two years. For those of you down in that area it has been a while and we look forward to seeing you.

There have been some changes since the last update. The Matagorda County Fairgrounds pulled a slick one on us and went up significantly on their pricing and would not honor the agreed price. Therefore, we had to change the venue, which also changed the date. The new venue is the Wharton County Fairgrounds and the new date is June 15th 2019. For those of you looking on your calendar, that is Father’s Day weekend. We did take all of this into consideration when trying to choose the date but this was the best date that we could get. We really do not feel like this will have a large impact on attendance, and may actually help. Consider this “Dad’s and Dogs”. The Arc of Matagorda County will be doing the concession stand this year .

Hotel accommodations are with Motel 6 in Wharton. They are $89.00 + tax per night. That is for a single or double bed. Just be sure you tell them you are with the TLGDA.

You can see more information on the flyer attached. PS How do y’all feel about changing the name to Coastal FunDay since we moved the town. We look forward to seeing you at the fairgrounds.

The Texas Lacy Game Dog Association is offering our two scholarships again this year, $500.00 for first place and $250.00 for second. The scholarships open Monday May 20, 2019 and will run through June 20, 2019. The requirement for the scholarship is a two-page essay on “Hunting Conservation” or “What you do with your Lacy dog”. You must be a member of the Texas Lacy Game Dog Association or be sponsored buy a current member and must be enrolled in a college or trade school for the fall semester 2019. The scholarship will be paid to the school. All essays should be sent to lacydogscholarship@gmail.com. You cannot win the scholarship two years consecutively.

If you have any questions about the upcoming FunDay or the scholarship you can contact me at president@tlgda.org or message me on Facebook. Also feel free to contact any of the officers or board of directors of the association. The contact information can be found on lacydog.org

May 2018 Newsletter and Important Information

Hello everyone. I have been trying to get a chance to write this update since we got back from the Lampasas Funday but we have been running since we got home last Sunday night. Anyway, here we go. WHAT A GREAT EVENT!!!!!

First I would like to thank The Linders and Bar 17 for the great facilities. Next, thank you to all of you that came out Friday afternoon to set up, worked Saturday and help tear down and police the area. There is so much work that goes into one of these events and the people that help put it on give up their time and money to be there early and work through the event. I can’t say enough about the Lampasas County 4-H and their help. They brought the food, the kids, and served the concession all day. It was reported to me that they took in $788.50!  It was just shy of $600 profit. Becca Dishman with the 4-H group said, “Great day!!! Thanks again and we look forward to next year”

Our final numbers were really good as well. We had 15 NEW members an 4 renewals sign up at the event. We took in $4047 and after the arena, livestock expenses, etc we should make close to $2715 net. We use this money to put on these events, pay for advertising for our members in different media, website support, and pay for the TLGDA Scholarships that we try to give out annually. There are other expenses as well but you get the drift.

Speaking of the TLGDA Scholarships, IT IS THAT TIME!!!!! From now through the first week of June, June 9th, we will be taking your essays for the $500 and $250 scholarships. They need to be at least two pages in length and be in standard MLA or APA format. The topics should be, “Hunting Conservation” or “What I Do With My Lacy”. When submitting, the author must be a member or sponsored by a member. Please send the compositions to Todd Porter @ porterslacys@gmail.com or Heather Swann @ hdswann@gmail.com. Feel free to contact any Board Member or Officer to submit an application. However, if you send it to someone other than Todd Porter or Heather Swann, PLEASE follow up with them to be sure they got it AND that it was forwarded on for the contest. Please find the full list of officers and BOD below.

Please read this carefully. I want all of you to post on Facebook, or text to someone you do not know or may have just met, the following information. Share your name, date of birth, and Social Security Number. Now, think on that for a few minutes. Would you do that or even consider it for yourself or someone you know such as a child or close relative? Some of you are doing that very thing with your dog when you share registration papers. You have given all of the information a person needs to falsify documents on a breeding or use the documents in other ways. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING AND HAS BEEN ON AN INCREASE RECENTLY!!!!! Fortunately, the occurrences have been caught but with an increase of occurrences so increases the chances of missing them. Please do not share your original papers. If you are interested in a breeding match please contact Marlo Ondrej, Registrar for the Lacy Game Dog Registry, at bluelacydogs@sbcglobal.net or call 210/288-0553. She will be glad to check breeding and answer any questions. One thing I do is scan our papers and take off the registration numbers along with birth dates but I never share on social media. If someone wants to see linage or the papers I share this copy. If any other entity asks for your paperwork please DO NOT SHARE!!! Know where your information is going. Please do not share your original papers.

Finally, our Northeast Texas Funday is coming up June 30th in Bonham, TX. It will be in the same place as last year, Fannin County Multipurpose Complex. The link to the facility is https://www.fannincountytexas.com/Fannin-County-Multipurpose-Complex. We had a great showing last year and we anticipate having an even better event this year. More details will be coming but plan on being there!!!!!

Lampasas FunDay 2018

I wanted to give a friendly reminder that the Lampasas FunDay is the last weekend in April. We will setup Friday evening, April 27th. Initial discussion is we will have a potluck or some type of simple dinner Friday night at Bar 17 after setup. This will give us an opportunity to visit longer and save a little for merchandise, lunch, and auction items Saturday, April 28th. Saturday will get underway at 8:30 am with sign in. We will post the schedule of events as we get closer.
Anyone interested in UBT testing needs to contact Kenny Wall at 281-844-0969. He will be able to test a limited number of dogs at this event so call ASAP and get on the list.

Plan on coming out and having a great time!!! Lampasas County 4-H will be providing concession: Breakfast and Lunch (Brisket sandwiches, chips, cookie, and drinks). Come out and support two great causes. Who doesn’t know about how beneficial 4-H organizations are to our youth.
From the 4-H website, “4 H is a Community. 4 H is delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Kids complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4 H in every county and parish in the country—through in-school and after-school programs, school and community clubs and 4 H camps.”

Lampasas County 4-H is one of those wonderful organizations, helping young people in the Lampasas area. Come out and help the youth that will someday be our leaders.
